“Apple’s next iPhone will a have a Curved Screen. Rival Samsung will be the initial supplier of OLED screens for Apple’s 10th anniversary iPhone.” That’s what WSJ published earlier on 28th Feb. As per report, Apple will adopt a flexible display for the upcoming iPhone for this year and has also ordered sufficient components to enable the mass production.
Earlier, a report from KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi-Kuo also revealed the expected release of three iPhones by Apple this year, one with OLED display.
We look for new 2017F iPhones to come in three models: one OLED model, and two TFT-LCD models with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display. We believe the OLED and 5.5-inch TFT-LCD iPhones will feature dual-camera. Based on this prediction, our forecast of dual camera adoption rate in new 2017F iPhone models is revised up from 30-40% to 65-75%. We view this increase as favoring Largan’s sales and profit momentum as it is the exclusive supplier of wide-angle and telephoto lens. It also bodes well for Apple’s dual camera software ecosystem.
The rumors have been circulating for three iPhones in this year by various online sources, keeping focus on the display size and features. Recently WSJ also came up with a report supporting the rumors of the OLED display.
Apple Inc. has decided to adopt a flexible display for one model of the new iPhone coming out this year and has ordered sufficient components to enable mass production, people familiar with the matter
Both the reports are confirming that this year three iPones will hit the market, iPhone 7S and 7S plus as successors of iphone 7 and 7 plus, as well as a special 10th anniversary Edition “iPhone 8”.
When it comes to Apple, the special edition must have some very special features too. The phone will have 5.8-inch display with 5.15 inches of usable area, the rest dedicated for On- Screen Virtual Buttons as Physical Home Button will be ditched in its favor. It will also feature a curved screen. Curved screen for iPhone 8 will be similar to Galaxy S series, while other two phones will have flat LCD panels. Lightning port will be replaced by USB C in all three phones, which offers faster rate than USB 3 or lightning for Power, Data, Audio and video. Apple’s latest MackBook Pro is already equipped with USB C, which means a greater compatibility for latest devices. Front facing camera on iPhone 8 may also include 3D sensing capabilities.
Most of the reports have also been confirming about glass casing and wireless charging in all three phones however, Mac Otakara has most recent claim that only the OLED model will feature glass casing and wireless charging.
Rumors are also there regarding the price. iPhone 8 could cost upwards of $1,000.
There is still much time for the devices to hit the market. let’s see how many of the rumors make their way to final product.
