Motorola Solutions charges Hytera for using Patents and stealing Trade Secrets

Motorola Solutions Inc. has filed a lawsuit accusing a Chinese based company for stealing its trade secrets and patents. Motorola Solution, who maintains 4000 U.S. patents, filed a complaint in U.S. District court in Chicago on Tuesday, alleging Hytera Communications for using the patents owned by Motorola and stealing trade secrets by luring away three former employees.

“After an internal investigation, we learned that this wasn’t accidental,” said Motorola Solutions General Counsel Mark Hacker. “In fact, it was an intentional scheme that Hytera deployed to steal our technology and claim it as its own.”

Three Motorola engineers were hired by Hytera back in 2008, who were employees of Motorola, and hold senior positions in the Hytera. Motorola claims that Hytera uses these employees to steal the trade secrets of Motorola, however, Motorola did not file any complain against the individuals.

No financial settlement is demanded in the suits however, Hacker said Motorola Solutions wants to stop Hytera from using Motorola’s technology and infringing on those patents.

“We cannot sit back and let Hytera steal our trade secrets and patents,” he said.

Difference between Lenovo Moto G5 and G5 plus – Launched at MWC 17

Lenovo after taking over Moto launched two G series mobile sets namely G5 and G5 plus at esteemed MWC 2017. Here, we will review the main difference between the two models which will help in discriminating the better one

G5 and G5 plus both have diamond cut aluminum chassis, a noticeable move to try and bring the finest feel seen by high end phones to the G series. Both the phones have similar design with G5 having display of 5-inch and G5 plus fitted with 5.2-inch screen. Both the G series phones have full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display is comparatively smaller then there predecessors, the G4 models, so that it appeals to consumer looking for easy to handle device.

With nano coating introduced G5 and G5 plus are splash proof. Both come with a new style of finger print scanner which is incorporated with home button. Both the phones have 3.5mm headphone jack.

As standard Android 7.0 Nougat runs on G5 and G5 plus. New feature in the software includes the capability to swap between open apps using home button.

The Moto G5 has1.4GHz Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor with Adreno 505 GPU processor, the G5 plus has faster 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor with Adreno 506 processor.

Both the models have 2GB RAM but G5 plus can also come with 4GB RAM. Storage capacity is 16 or 32 GB for G5 and for G5 plus it is 32 or 64 GB.

Camera on G5 is 13Mp, f/2.0 camera at the rear and a 5Mp at front. The G5 plus has a 12Mp Sony IMX260, f/1.7 camera at rear, which is the same camera as is used by the Galaxy S7. With 5Mp camera at the front.

Now coming over to the battery which would be of keen interest for the costumers, at the MWC 2017 Lenovo affirmed that both the G5 and the G5 Plus would have good battery life. The G5 sports a removable 2,800mAh battery with fast charging, and is said to offer around two days with normal usage and be able to fully charge within an hour. The G5 Plus battery isn’t removable, but it is higher in capacity at 3,000mAh. It, too, has TurboPower charging, and one will get six hours use from a 15-minute charge.

Matter of great concern to the users would be the price, so you would expect the G series remains affordable. In the UK, the Moto G5 with 16GB of storage will have an RRP of £169, the 32GB model £179. The G5 Plus will cost £259 with 32GB storage.

Lenovo has again set the trademark of Game changer. The G5 series would be one of the challengers with the Smartphone arena with upcoming new models. And if budget is not a problem G5 plus is the phone which you are looking for.

Lenovo to Release Moto Mods and Compatible Smartphones

Lenovo Moto believes that the module support can be the new revolution in smartphones, but the experiment of LG wasn’t that successful when they launched LG G5 with module support. The flagship didn’t perform as predicted and later LG had to stop module support in its flagship LG G6 which has hit the market without modular.

However Motorola since taken over by Lenovo 2 years back, has not yet come up with much of smartphones, but now has announced that they will produce different mods and compatible Motorola smartphones. Three different Mods alongwith a high end smartphone by Motorola are already available in the market and Moto claims that they are doing good.

“We have so far sold three million units of the smartphone…50% people bought the phones with a Mod,”    Lenovo’s General Manager Middle East for Smartphones Sharay Shams said in a recent interview.

He shared some further plans that Lenovo will be introducing 12 new Moto Mods this year. And will be maintaining the supported smartphones in market with module support for three years. This announcement however gives a relief that the phones will continue for some time and will not be discontinued like LG G5.

“The company will introduce 12 Mods this year, which will remain compatible with the phones to be introduced by the company over the next three years,” Shams said.

The major consideration for the success of Moto Mods can be the controlled price and continued supportability. It seems that Lenovo is determined for the supportability. The cost perspective is yet to come, let’s see how expensive the devices will be.

What I think is that giving supportability for three years will set a positive pace for the Moto Mods in market  The exact trend will be revealed after three years. This can be a way head towards new kind of smart phones or it can also be a fail experiment. Lenovo claims that they have innovated Mods (attachable external gadgets), which has transformed the smartphones into what you want to make it and when.

Let the time decide the fate.
